A Great Place for Breakfast: Cobs Bakery near Foothills Hospital

            Back in April, I wrote an article about the different breakfast places in and around the Montgomery neighbourhood. You can check out that article here, and of course you can have breakfast at the Centro, but today I want to add an addition to that article. That addition is Cobs Bakery, located in the shadow of the Foothills Hospital and the University of Calgary.

             Back when I was studying at the University of Calgary, this was one of my favourite places to go. As you can see for yourself on the map below, Cob’s is a pretty quick jaunt from the Centro. While you can get your average bakery fare here, it also offers some rare and delicious treats. Such as the delectable Bread and Butter Pudding.

However, I realise that bakeries aren’t for everyone. Some people are allergic to things like wheat gluten, or milk products. Still yet, some people are hyper-allergenic and need specially prepared food. Well, one of the reasons I though Cobs would make a good entry to the list of great breakfast places near Centro is the fact that they specialise in producing speciality dietary restrictive items, such as low glycemic index and dairy free items, as well as a few items with unbleached flour and no preservatives. And, if you’re lucky enough not to suffer from any of those particular digestive foibles you can just get yourself a bacon and cheese bun.

            Cobs is located a stone’s throw from the nearby Foothills Hospital (on a side note, when my father was in Foothills for some minor surgery a couple of years ago we brought him his breakfast from here. MUCH better than hospital food), however there are other locations in Calgary you can check out as well. For the location close to Centro, see the map below.

Centro Motel and the Ronald McDonald House

This week I‘d like to blog about something one of our neighbours is doing. Foothills Hospital and its new, extremely colourful addition, the Alberta Children’s Hospital sits on the top of the river valley overlooking the Centro Motel. In fact, we’re so close that the Calgary Ronald McDonald House has accepted our offer to help them with any overflow they might have in the future.That’s why I’m writing this article, the main topic I’d like to cover is the upcomingRonald McDonald House’s 7^th Annual Cassie Campbell Street Hockey Festival, presented by Penn West Energy.

For those not familiar with the Ronald McDonald House, their mission statement is “Helping sick children get what they need most... their families”. Essentially, they provide onsite accommodation for families with children in the Alberta Children’s Hospital with the intent of providing a supportive environment for the family member who is being treated for illness. The Street Hockey Festival is their signature yearly fundraiser event, and will be taking place at the Olympic Oval on April 30^th and May 1^st. The information on their website reads...           

The Cassie Campbell Street Hockey Festival is fun for all ages. Join in on Canada's favourite game and past time, cheer on your friends, check out entertainers, arcade games, and all the action at the Olympic Oval on April 30^th and May 1^st.

 Don't forget to be at the Celebrity Game at noon on Saturday, May 1^st to see our amazing line-up of celebrities players including two-time Olympic Gold Medalist, Cassie Campbell, as they battle it out for supremacy!
